Julian of Norwich Mission

A Mission of the Catholic Apostolic Church in North America

Welcome to the Julian of Norwich Mission , a community-based mission translating faith into concrete action, love, and justice. Inspired by the radical hope of the mystic Julian of Norwich, whose foundational belief was, "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well," we believe that spirituality and social justice must be one.

A Ministry of Inclusion

Julian of Norwich Mission is a community member of CACINA, the Catholic Apostolic Church in North America. CACINA is an independent, sacramental, inclusive Catholic church that welcomes ALL.

Julian of Norwich Mission gets its name from the Catholic Mystic in which it is named after. She famously wrote:

“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.”

We offer a safe, affirming space for those who feel disconnected, judged, or harmed by traditional denominations. We recognize that Christianity needs a re-branding, and we provide a spiritual home where clergy affirm LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and those healing from religious trauma.

CACINA Core Beliefs

CACINA believes each person is beloved and created in the image of God, without exception.
CACINA places high value upon gender equality, diversity of peoples, and inclusion of all in the ministries of the church.
CACINA believes the Gospel calls for a commitment to social justice and action to serve the poor.
CACINA is a welcoming Church preaching the Gospel of LOVE of both neighbor and ourselves.
CACINA respects Catholic tradition in liturgy and spirituality, we worship in community with Eucharist as our centering prayer and other communal devotions while encouraging the spiritual growth and commitment to the Body of Christ.
CACINA believes in shared governance among laity and clergy in our discernment and in our leadership.

What We Do

Our work is built upon three interconnected pillars, translating faith into a powerful force for change.

1

Digital Ministry

We are the digital pulpit and welcoming front door to our mission, translating progressive faith, feminism, and queer-affirming theology for a global online audience. This work establishes a global community of spiritually-grounded justice seekers.

You can find Rev. Madison on TikTok or her YouTube channel, Translating Faith.

2

Sacramental Presence

We provide inclusive, in-person liturgy, community, and Catholic spirituality. This includes holding a Monthly Community Service for progressive and inclusive liturgy, and offering affirming pastoral care for all of life's moments (weddings, funerals, baptisms), regardless of background or identity.

3

Community Action

We embody our faith by showing up for justice, accompaniment, and restorative healing in our local community.

"God is all that is good, as to my sight, and the goodness that each thing hath, it is He."
-Julian of Norwich

Catholic But Not Roman?

CACINA is an independent, sacramental, inclusive Catholic church that welcomes all. CACINA is not a part of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox Catholic, or any other independent Catholic church. However, we share with them through tradition, liturgy, the Eucharist, and the apostolic succession of our bishops, a connection to the early sacred Catholic church. CACINA started after Roman Catholic Bishop Carlos Duarte-Costa, an anti-fascist Bishop in Brazil, spoke out about papal reform, including papal infallibility and clerical celibacy. He was a liberation theologian, focused on the poor and oppressed, and also heavily criticized the Vatican for its complicity with Nazi Germany. When he was excommunicated for speaking out, he started the Catholic Apostolic Church of Brazil. Its offshoot in North America is CACINA.

At CACINA, all who come in good faith are welcome to receive the sacraments of the Church. If you were raised Roman but don't align with its doctrine, consider yourself "culturally Catholic," or have no Catholic background but find yourself called to sacramental Christianity, we are here for you!
